You can make your neighborhood and home safe!
In today's constantly changing world, few of us know our neighbors. lt seems crime is all around us. Who can we trust? The constant barrage of crime on the local news increases this sense of isolation, mistrust and fear. Is my home a target? What can I do to protect myself and my family? Law enforcement officials report substantial decreases in crime when neighbors unite. Programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Apartment Watch, Town Watch - no matter what it is called - are one of the most effective tools law enforcement has in stopping crime. Watch Groups build neighborhood togetherness which helps overcome the isolation that criminals target. Take a stand, organize a watch group!
To date, six people were arrested that resided within the Hyacinth and Goldenrod area for public assistance fraud (Section 8) by the PBSO Crime Prevention Unit. These individuals had a past criminal history including offenses of sexual battery of a person less than 12 years old, possession of drugs with intent to sell, robbery, car-jacking, and other minor criminal acts. Included in this arrest was one landlord who owned approximately 14 tri- and quad-plexes throughout Wellington and was renting them to Section 8 tenants. The PBSO Crime Prevention Unit has sent a letter to the Housing Authority to cease all funding to the arrested individuals, meaning all persons living in this area will have to be relocated by the Housing Authority.
