Gis Day Workshop

Geographic Information System (GIS) technology allows users to view relationships, processes, patterns and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports and charts. From mapping hurricane damage to finding the best location of your favorite coffee shop, GIS allows people to see how the world works and changes.

Wellington's GIS Department develops, distributes and maintains an interactive GIS website available to all Wellington staff, allowing departments to streamline decisions. There is also a public GIS site available at www.wellingtonfl.gov.

GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Action initiative, designed to promote geographic literacy. Since 1999, more than 10,000 organizations have participated in GIS Day by hosting events such as open houses, hands-on workshops, community expos, school assemblies and mapping projects.
